AEF Golf Tournament raises more than $20,000

The first annual AEF (Aldine Education Foundation) Golf Tournament raised more than $20,000 for the Foundation.

The tournament was held Monday, Sept. 22 at Cypresswood Golf Club. The tournament attracted nearly 100 golfers, who enjoyed a round of golf on a sun-splashed day.

Former Aldine ISD Superintendent M.B. “Sonny” Donaldson served as the tournament’s honorary chairman.

Tournament Chairman Sidney Brewer thanked the members of his committee for all their hard work organizing this first-ever endeavor and said he expects the event to grow in the future.

“I want to thank the members of the committee who gave of their time to make this tournament a success,” Brewer said. “We learned a lot and were happy with the turnout. We feel good about the future of this event and expect it to grow so we can assist the Foundation for many, many years to come. I want to thank all of the volunteers who came out today to help us. We really appreciate their help and assistance.”

The tournament was sponsored by a number of area businesses.

Molina Walker Architects, Inc. was a Platinum Sponsor ($5,000), while Caldwell Company, World Commerce Forwarding, Inc., JSE Consulting Engineers, Inc., Edgenunity, Norton Rose Fulbright and Camdon Graphics were Gold Sponsors ($2,000 each). Silver Sponsors ($1,500) were Investex Credit Union, Beasley Tire Service, Andrews Kurth LLP and H-E-B. The Solid IT Network team of Emmitt Lewis, Errol Johnson, Jennifer Reed and Dianze Thompson finished in first place, followed by the AISD Athletics/Barcelona Sporting Good team of Sammy Barcelona, Brad Collins, Sandra Mader and Hernando Portelo. The World Commerce Forwarding, Inc. team of Shannon Carnes, Aaron Keys, Ben Reyes and John Reyes finished in third place.

Miranda Hadmik of the Caldwell Company team won the longest drive in the female category, while Dave Garza of Tiger-Rock Martial Arts of Houston took longest drive honors in the male category. Sandra Mader of the AISD Athletics/Barcelona Sporting Goods team won the closest to the hole competition.

Joining Brewer on the committee were Bill Ginder, Alex Jordan, Jason Spencer, Dr. Bennie Lambert and Craig Brast.

The money raised from the event will go AEF to fund scholarships for Aldine ISD seniors and provide classroom grants for Aldine ISD teachers.
