Aldine Education Foundation Responds to Urgent COVID19 Need for Post-Secondary Education Scholarships, Joining #GivingTuesday in Global Day of Giving and Unity
Houston, November 9, 2020 – Aldine Education Foundation is responding to meet the needs of graduating students in Aldine ISD by raising money for graduating seniors to assist them with post-secondary education.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on December 1, 2020. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
Sadly, Aldine ISD Spring 2020 graduating seniors did not apply for post-secondary education scholarships at the same rate as last year. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, many would-be college freshmen have decided to postpone college rather than start their education online, or worse, not attend at all. Overall, undergraduate enrollment fell 4% this year, according to data from National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, with incoming freshmen accounting for the biggest drop — sinking 16% from last fall.
Aldine Education Foundation clearly understands that our students must stay focused on their future now more than ever, so to support them we are launching our #GivingTuesday campaign with a goal of $5,000. About Aldine Education Foundation
Aldine Education Foundation (AEF) was established in 2012 to assist Aldine ISD in reaching its goal to Produce the Nation’s Best. Aldine ISD is the 10th largest public school district in Texas and has existed for more than 80 years. Of its 67,000 students at 82 campuses, more than 85% of our students are economically disadvantaged.
Aldine Education Foundation is led by a volunteer Board of Directors working to raise private funds from individuals, corporations, foundations, and community organizations interested in improving education for the youth of the Aldine area. These monies provide needed resources to supplement ever-dwindling public funds received by Aldine ISD and deliver new programs not funded through traditional revenue streams.
