AEF Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Scholarships, Grants, and Relief Aid

The fourth annual Aldine Education Foundation Golf Tournament raised more than $46,000 to support three important AEF programs.

As with all previous tournaments, proceeds will help fund scholarships for graduating Aldine ISD seniors as well as grants to implement classroom programs across the District. But the AEF Board of Directors also committed some of the funds raised to the AEF Relief Fund for Aldine ISD families recovering from Hurricane Harvey.

“We know this is a small part of what students and staff in our District need, but AEF is proud to provide any assistance it can as struggling Aldine families work to rebuild their lives,” said AEF Board President Bill Ginder of Caldwell Companies.

The tournament was held Friday, October 27 at Oakhurst Golf Club and former Aldine ISD Superintendent M.B. “Sonny” Donaldson served as the tournament’s honorary chairman. Mr. Donaldson and the golf tournament committee thanked the first-ever Diamond Sponsor, Molina Walker Almaguer Architects, for their significant support of the 2017 tournament.

Other area business contributors included Platinum Sponsors Caldwell Companies, Skanska USA, and Stanton Engineering Group; Gold Sponsor Solid IT; and Silver Sponsors DBR Engineering Consultants, East Aldine District, Edgenuity, US Representative Gene Green, HTS Consultants, JP Morgan, Martinez Architects, PBK Architects, Raba Kistner, The Thomas Group, and Wells Fargo Securities. Hole Sponsors were Andrews Kurth Kenyon, Barcelona Sports, Be An Angel, and Siebert Cisneros Shank & Co. Thompson & Horton sponsored breakfast and Bracewell sponsored lunch. Thirty-four Aldine ISD schools also contributed to the success of this year’s tournament as school hole sponsors.

The team of Fred Barton, Stephan Harris, Damion Haskett, and Darrell Morrison scored First Place plaques, undaunted by the light drizzle during tournament play.

Sidney Brewer served as chairman of the golf tournament committee and already is at work planning for AEF’s Fifth Annual Golf Tournament in 2018.
